Yes, you can choose to enable notifications, but sometimes I forget. It's nice (opinion) to just have notifications automatically enabled for any topic you post in.

When I post on CL, I'm instantly notified via email if someone else posts in the same thread until I unsubscribe.

You can get the notification automatically for the thread that you posted on:

1. Go to Profile -> Modify Profile -> Notifications

2. Check the box that says "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic."

This should do the trick.
